Randy A. Cramer Fraud Exposed: The Secret Space Marine and GoFundMe investigation

Randy Alan Cramer has claimed to be an Active Duty US Marine Officer. This is a continuation of my own prior research, dating back to 2018. This is an ongoing investigation involving other sources and is updated accordingly.



Randy Alan Cramer:

Randy Alan Cramer claims he is an active duty US Marine Captain authorized by Headquarters USMC "Command Staff" to inform the public of details of an  Unacknowledged Special Access Program (USAP), USMC "Special Section" (SS).

He claims he has been upgraded in his security clearance in order to access Classified Intelligence Files regarding a Secret Space Program involving (among others) the USMC.

Yet, after nearly 7 years of public exposure involving hundreds of hours of interviews, conference appearances, and numerous websites, Cramer has yet to present a single document as evidence of the program or for his own service within it.

Cramer's claim that his service in the USMC is "classified" as well as the existence of a USMC "Special Section" Unacknowledged Special Access Program (USAP), is absolutely untrue.

Cramer has also claimed he served in the US Navy as a SEAL. The US Department of Defense, and in this case, the Department of the Navy (USMC) does not classify basic information regarding a person's service record. Such information is considered a matter of public record and information such as dates of service, rank, education, awards, duty assignments, and discharge are releasable information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Unlike some crowdsourcing sites which require the monetary goal to be met before any donations can be accessed, GoFundMe allows the immediate use of funds to the beneficiary of the campaign. Cramer is clearly listed as both the campaigner and beneficiary.

Cramer also claims he is being allowed to tell his bullshit story by "USMC Command Staff" and that he has been involved in weekly briefings since 2016 with his "supervisor", a "Brigadier Gen. Julian Smythe".

"Capt. Randy Cramer states straightforwardly that he was authorized under Article 21 by his chain of command to speak out. He says, “When I agreed to speak publicly, my security clearance was raised to a Blue/Gold-13, which has granted me full access to USMC ss intelligence files, and weekly briefings by Brigadier General Julian Smythe, personally.”

According to Capt. Cramer, “USMC Special Section (ss). is a covert Unacknowledged Special Access Program (or USAP) signed into law as a legal and covert branch of the US military in 1953 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. USMC ss was mandated by President Eisenhower through the USMC ss special code to meet the exopolitical questions of EBE’s, (Extra Terrestrial Biological entities) and ETV’s (Extra Terrestrial Vehicles); to assist in assessing diplomatic opportunities and military threats and advise the MJ-12 committee and special study groups (SSG’s) with intelligence from a fully staffed and operational military intelligence machine, and respond to their requests for specially trained military assistance in all matters extra terrestrial.”

I have not found any record of a Gen. Julian Smythe anywhere. What I did find was a Lt. Gen Julian C. Smith who died in 1975!

Cramer's foremost defense: 

Cramer continues to assert that the USMC is not investigating or prosecuting him for impersonating an officer.  That his chain of command is separated from the established order under the Department of the Navy and that he reports directly to his "Brigadier" and the Commandant of the Marine Corps.

That's interesting because the Commandant of the Marine Corps was Gen. James F. Amos when Cramer began his first public appearances in 2014 and there have been three Commandants since Amos:

Joseph Dunford, Robert Neller, and now (2021) David H. Berger.

Cramer claims he is "sanctioned" by the USMC yet HQ USMC and the DoD consistently deny his claims.  The USMC does not investigate or prosecute cases of impersonation or Stolen Valor.


1. Cramer's claims: Timeline

Aug 1987: Cramer is issued a ticket for driving without headlights in Eugene, OR.

Sept 1994:  Cramer receives a Civil Judgment for $4,977.00 in Eugene, OR.

Sept 2001: Cramer charged with Criminal/traffic violation (misdemeanor) Santa Barbara, CA.

2016: Cramer starts a private "consultations" service in 2016 called "Earth Citizen Consulting" http://www.earthcitizenconsulting.org/  where he charges fees of $100, $250, and $500.00 as well as accepting donations.

2016 - 2017: Australian investor starts GoFundMe donation campaign on behalf of Cramer which began in February 2017 with a goal of $70,000.00 yielded $6,435.00 in 2019.  (The amount shown on July 24, 2020, was nearly $10,000,00.)

The woman also paid for a 13,500.00 9-day vacation for Cramer to the Netherlands.

2017: I am doxed and attacked by Douglas Dietrich (Revolution Radio) who falsely alleges that I am Randy Cramer and others. 

2018: Australian Investor divulges that she has invested 50.000.00 of a 100.000.00 pledge to Cramer's "Holobed Research Project".

"I was so impressed... I personally invested $50K USD to kick off the show & another $13,500 USD shouting Randy an all-expenses-paid holiday (well-deserved R & R) to The Netherlands for 9 nine days... to meet him in person."

The woman said she had not seen any return on her investment and had not heard from Cramer in nearly 4 years.

"I haven't seen a cent in return yet. I haven't been given any reports on research equipment purchased yet. I started the GoFundMe Page towards this mission..."

2018:   I submit FOIA Requests to NPRC, HQ USMC, and DOD/DMDC:  Responses show NO RECORD OF MILITARY SERVICE for Cramer.

2. The facts:

a. Military records and requests:

Cramer's claim that his service in the USMC is "classified" as well as the existence of a USMC "Special Section" Unacknowledged Special Access Program (USAP), is absolutely untrue. Cramer has also claimed he served in the US Navy as a SEAL. The US Department of Defense, and in this case, the Department of the Navy (USMC) does not classify basic information regarding a person's service record. Such information is considered a matter of public record and information such as dates of service, rank, education, awards, duty assignments, and discharge are releasable information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

The military cannot withhold a person's Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). Some branches maintain those records for a number of years (electronically).  Veterans are normally given a copy of their OMPF at discharge (CD) and members still on Active Duty have access using their Combined Access Card (CAC).

The record is then transferred to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) to maintain. This is the responsibility of the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) in St. Louis, MO,

Veterans discharged before 2006 can request their OMPF from the NPRC by using NARA SF-180

Request Pertaining to Military Records, SF 180 (11-15)

The form provides instructions for those discharged after 2006  to send that form to the appropriate office. There are many websites available to assist Veterans in obtaining service records.

The documents I obtained under the FOIA are proof Cramer has never served in the US Military.

FOIA Requests:

A person's military service is a public record. The NPRC will provide Releasable Information to anyone submitting a written FOIA request.  This requires the person's full name, date, and place of birth, service branch, and years of service. It does NOT require a SSN, but if it is known it should be used.

They usually respond within 90 days by sending either a redacted DD-214 (Record of Discharge) or a form NA- 13164 (Releasable Information) which is a summary of service.  It includes rank, awards, MOS, education, and duty assignments. 

NO ONE's record of service is considered "classified". This pertains only to specific records that might provide operational details that are classified. These details as well as a person's Medical Record and details of any legal actions under the UCMJ are NOT RELEASABLE.

The DOD/DMDC and  SCRA also offer websites that provide verification of military service. This is considered an electronic form of FOIA request using the same requirements.  They provide a signed document that shows the person's dates of service and branch.

b. The Stolen Valor Act

Federal Misdemeanor: 1 year and fine.

The FBI investigates persons to determine if their actions violate the SVA. If the allegations can be substantiated, the case is then referred to the US Attorney's Office for prosecution.

Prosecutors require that the case involved the wearing of specific medals, uniform, forging of a DD-214 or other documents and that the person received "tangible benefit" in the form of money or property.

c. Impersonation

18 U.S. Code § 912.Officer or employee of the United States

 Federal Felony: 1-3 years and fine.

This is a similar crime to Stolen Valor, but is separate from and more serious,

"Whoever falsely assumes or pretends to be an officer or employee acting under the authority of the United States or any department, agency or officer thereof, and acts as such, or in such pretended character demands or obtains any money, paper, document, or thing of value, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both."

"A person falsely claiming to represent the US Military or US Government in an official capacity and seeks to gain money or property could face up to three years in federal prison."

The impersonation must involve an "overt act" intended to facilitate the action intended.

Cramer claims that the reason he has not been arrested and charged with "impersonating an officer" is that he IS an active duty Marine Officer.   

The USMC does not investigate civilians for impersonation or Stolen Valor.  That is the reason.

d. "Theft by deception" and "Wire Fraud" 

Wire Fraud - Definition, Examples, Cases, Processes

Federal Felony: Up to 20 years and fine.

Prosecutors who have evidence of wire fraud, especially involving s a significant amount of money would likely pursue a conviction for Cramer instead of impersonation or stolen valor. Especially if they can substantiate it also involved the transfer of funds internationally as well as nationally (electronically). 

The GoFundMe Safety and Security Team began its investigation 6 weeks ago (2019) . The investigation likely involved the FBI and local law enforcement (wherever Cramer is).  They will have identified the investor in Australia from her registering info for GoFundMe.  

In addition, the FBI may have confiscated Cramer's banking records and computers. Cramer would have been made to surrender any valid US Passport. (Cramer has not been active for over a month).

Once the US Attorney's Office is involved, the Feds will probably pursue indictments for each count of wire fraud they can substantiate.   Cramer will probably have a public defender and accept a plea agreement. He could face up to 20 years and a fine for each separate count of fraud.

Cramer's SSP Claims:

"Project Mannequin" and "Project Moon Shadow aka Operation Moon Shadow"

"Project Moon Shadow" aka "Operation Moon Shadow" appears to be the invention of Randy Cramer.

Project Moon Shadow, devised in 1967 and initiated in 1969, was a MILAB program focused on training augmented soldiers without the trauma-based methods used in previous programs, which were found to be extremely inefficient.[1] It falls into the larger umbrella of a global program called Project Mannequin. It was a USMC s.s. cooperative program with the Bronze Ones. Training took place on the backside of the Moon.



"I was manufactured into the program as property of the USMC s.s. as part of the Augmented Soldier Program (Project Moonshadow) under the larger umbrella of a global program called Project Mannequin, and then implanted in my biological mother's womb to be raised by her, and my biological father. 

So, Project Moonshadow was my childhood program. There were 300 of us in the original program: about an 80/20 split of boys and girls. It was/is a USMC s.s. cooperative program with the Bronze ones.  In 1987, after a 17-year training program, I was officially transferred to the USMC s.s. general service pool.  

That pool (of about 10,000 personnel) was parceled off (sent) to Luna Operations Command (LOC) for individual assignments in the EDF system. The parcel I was in, was sent to Mars to contract with the MDF (Mars Defense Force) for the defense of the Martian settlements"- Randy Cramer





The GoFundMe "Holobeds Research" Campaign Fraud


1. The GoFundMe campaign states that Randy Cramer is an Active Duty US Marine Captain and a 20-year veteran.

Cramer never served in the USMC or any other branch.  (You cannot be an Active Duty Marine Officer and not comply with the required standards).

2. The campaign states that randy Cramer is "officially sanctioned by US Marine Corps "Command Staff" Brig. Gen Julian Smythe and the Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. Robert B. Neller. 

HQ USMC Quantico, VA has denied Cramer was a US Marine or that they are officially sanctioning him in any way. They also deny the existence of a "USMC 
Special Section USAP".

3.  The campaign states that donations are for the "Research and Development of Holobeds with a goal of $70,000.00 and projects a minimum cost of $20 million"

The Donations are intended for Cramer's "personal use and emotional well-being"

In March 2019 I submitted a FOIA request to the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) in order to verify Cramer's claims of military service.
No record of service in ANY branch was found for Randy A. Cramer.

(Cramer claims both end of active service in 2007 and also that he is still serving on active duty assigned as "Public Relations Officer/Independent Field Commander").

I never received a response from the CMC, PMSB.

Frauds eat their own:

Alfred L. Webre is not a reliable source: but the article is interesting. Why manufacture a story about refuting Cramer's claims of military service using questionable evidence?

1.  There is not a "USMC Base" located at Los Lunas, NM.
2.  Ken Johnston is a known source of misinformation much like Cramer.
3.  Any one of these people seeking to verify Cramer's claims of military service could do as I have and submitted a FOIA request to HQ USMC or visited the DoD Defense Manpower Data Center site and entered Cramer's information.  

The site requires an account to log in but it is free and does not require the SSN of the person being verified. Simply click on the "Single Record Request" link.

You will need to enter the person's name, date of birth and dates of service.

They would have the results in mere seconds as a "Status Report" PDF. 

This option saves time rather than wait for a FOIA request to be processed (which could take up to 90 days).  An example of the results can be found in an earlier post to this blog, where I produce my own search results as an example:

Assuming that this prima facie evidence is in fact true, that would mean that at the very least Randy Cramer could be found guilty of a federal felony and violation of the Stolen Valor Act for publicly putting himself forth as a military officer, not to mention the untold damage to Exopolitical research of perpetrating a sustained public hoax and fraud about his alleged participation in the U.S. presence on Mars.

I understand as well that Andrew D. Basiago, Esq., a member of the Washington State Bar and the US District Court for the Western District of Washington has found a serious distortion of his Mars experiences in every paragraph of the article you wrote about him for Atlantis Rising.
In addition, Andrew D. Basiago has spoken with the former wife of Randy Cramer with regard to Cramer’s alleged service in the US Marine Corps and on Mars. Randy Cramer’s former wife reportedly told Andrew D. Basiago that “Randy Cramer has never been in the Marine Corps, he has never been on Mars. Cramer claims that after 3 years he could still not verify his own service or obtain a record of it. He has since claimed he is working with his congressman to sue the USMC for not paying him during his 20 years of active duty service!

Mars whistleblower reveals more of his covert military service

The most pertinent information in my opinion is that Randy is still acting under direct orders from his military superiors – a brigadier general and colonel serving in a covert branch of the U.S. Marine Corps called “special section.” This was covered in my last skype interview with him. In the newsletter he says:
Col. Jamieson put me in touch with a man identifying himself as Brigadier General Smythe.  General Smythe gave me a fairly long-winded explanation about the “soulless pricks” (his words) on “the Committee” that he was supposed to answer to, and the serious disagreements by USMC s.s. brass with said Committee.  Without elaborating, I was satisfied with his explanation of the situation on his end.  When he personally gave me the go-ahead (he said, and I quote, “I’m giving you the go-ahead to go public with everything you know…”), I asked, “Everything?” and he said, “EVERYTHING!”, and then we had a deal.  As long as I had the assurance that my direct chain of command was behind me and that I had no restrictions on truthful content, I knew it was for real – and that HE was for real.  No one – not even an enemy – would want me to do that, or tell me to do that.  He even said I could use his name, which I just did, to let the people who need to know, that I answer to him, and only to him… and if they didn’t like it, they could take it up with him, or the CMC.


Finally, Randy claims that President Eisenhower created the US Marine Corps special section in 1953 as a counterweight to the MJ-12 Group. That makes a lot of sense given the long history of the Marines and Eisenhower’s suspicions about the growing power of MJ-12 that culminated in his 1958 threat to invade area 51/S4:
"President Eisenhower (‘Ike’) created USMC s.s. because he didn’t trust “those MJ-12 boys”, and he wanted a military unit (disciplined and oath driven, not like intelligence community people), and he wanted them to be marines because he wanted them to have the highest ethical and moral fiber.  So they recruited their first officer class from the Navy and the Marine Corps, before they created their own officer academy, because Sailors and Marines have a shipmate and teammate mentality.  We all work together, or we all go down with the ship – essentially.  This distinction has a ripple effect that makes Navy and Marine command structure TOTALLY different from Army or Air Force, which is where the main corruption comes from: greedy conquerors (fucking Legionnaires) – mix that with the T2 eugenicists, and you have a global nightmare the Nazis only envisioned in their wettest dreams."

As of last year, he was still posting videos as "Captain Randy Cramer" (O-3) but as of seven months ago has skipped the ranks of Major and Lieutenant Colonel to full Colonel (O-6).


Cramer has never served in any branch of the US Military.

The Imperial Japanese Navy Bombers Lie

Dietrich's claims from "IMPERIAL JAPANESE AIRCRAFT – THE TRUTH BEHIND ROSWELL AND BATTLE OF LA UFO’s”

Under the subheading "Imperial Japanese Navy Bombers", Dietrich makes specific references to the Mitsubishi Ki-67 ("Peggy") and Tachikawa Ki-74 ("Patsy") and Tachikawa Ki-77.

In each case, Dierich falsely inflates the maximum effective ranges and other capabilities of these aircraft.

Mitsubishi Ki-67:

“Peggy” appeared in several configurations, one being redesignated as the Ki-109, serving as a high-altitude B-29 Destroyer (by carrying a 75 mm cannon in its nose with enough punch and range to stay out of the defensive fire-radius of the targeted B-29 while disintegrating it in mid-air). The Emperor refused to deploy these models against the Enola Gay or Bock’s Car in order to avoid the consequent nuclear airburst(s) and resultant EM-Pulse(s) at such altitude(s) – which would have fried Japan’s grid on a national level."

Dietrich claims these aircraft were deployed from Japanese submarines on the Atlantic and Caribbean (seaboards?) coasts of the United States until 1951 using I-400 class  "Sentoku"

The wreckage of I-401 was discovered by the Pisces deep-sea submarines of the Hawaii Undersea Research Laboratory in March 2005 at a depth of 820 meters (2,690 ft). It was reported that I-400 was later found by the same team off the southwest coast of the Hawaiian island of Oahu in August 2013 at a depth of 700 meters (2,300 ft). NOAA researcher Jim Delgado, working aboard Pisces V, told the Chicago Tribune "It was torpedoed, partially collapsed and had sunk at a steep angle." The submarines scuttled off the Japanese coast were relocated in July 2015.

 But of course, Dietrich's most outrageous of claims regarding the Ki-67 is that they were capable of deploying "atomic" bombs.

"Another version of the “Peggy” was that of a Kamikaze aircraft with a large explosive charge built inside to detonate on impact. This was the “Atomic Peggy” – as instrumental in forcing the Americans to concession as any of the other integral facets of Japan’s Holocaustic Arsenal we have discussed. The “Peggy” was a standardized design. the empty weight of the standardized “Peggy” was nineteen thousand (19, 000) pounds.

 The maximum take-off weight was thirty thousand (30, 000) pounds. Therefore standard carrying capacity was eleven thousand (11, 000) pounds of weight! The Axis Powers utilized uranium bombs. The “Little Boy” bomb dropped on Hiroshima was – as Oppenheimer stated – “of German provenance” (obliquely referring to the “Project Paperclip” Nat-Zi Physicists emigrated to America on Cease-Fire in Europe to complete what the Americans could not) and simply the knock-off of fairly standardized German atomic ordnance (the “Fat Man” plutonium bomb was a more unique example of ad hoc American idiosyncrasy).

 It (the “Little Boy”) was surprisingly lightweight for a shell with the explosive power of thirteen thousand (13, 000) tons of TNT – a mere eight thousand, eight hundred and ninety-nine (8899) pounds! Hence the three (3) “Peggys” launched from each I-400 Sen-Toku submarine aircraft carrier would be fully crewed and equipped with enough defensive armament to power through any attempted American interception inland."

This claim is total bullshit.  The I-400 subs could not carry 3 KI-46 medium bombers, nor were they armed with nuclear bombs.  Dietrich describes them as operating after WW2 until 1951 and each capable of carrying a full crew and armament.  Such a claim is just ridiculous nonsense.

Are we to believe that such "submarine aircraft carriers" simply went undetected by hiding themselves near wreckage on the floor of the Atlantic at a depth of thousands of feet?

"The U.S. Navy boarded and recovered 24 submarines, including the three I-400 submarines, taking them to Sasebo Bay to study them. While there, they received a message that the Soviets were sending an inspection team to examine the submarines. To prevent this Operation Road's End was instituted. Most of the submarines were taken to a position designated as Point Deep Six, about 35 km (19 nmi) southeast of Fukue Island,[37] packed with charges of C-3 explosive and destroyed; they sank to a depth of 200 m (660 ft).

Four remaining submarines, I-400, I-401, I-201 and I-203, were sailed to Hawaii by U.S. Navy technicians for further inspection. Upon completion of the inspections, the submarines were scuttled in the waters off Kalaeloa near Oahu in Hawaii by torpedoes from US submarine USS Trumpetfish on June 4, 1946, to prevent the technology from being made available to the Soviets who were demanding access to them. Dr. James P. (Jim) Delgado of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's maritime heritage program reported that the official government position that the exact location of the sinking was unknown has been confirmed by declassified US Navy documents."

But this is the type of bullshit this article by Dietrich presents and will likely be replicated in a book with Peter Moon.

 The other two aircraft Dietrich mentions are the Tachikawa Ki-74 and Tachikawa Ki-77. Both were considered "experimental" and never manufactured in large quantity as Dietrich describes, and never deployed in combat.

 Dietrich claims a KI-74 'disappeared over the Indian Ocean" This is false and can be related to his next claim regarding the Tachikawa Ki-77. 

 "The Command Ki-77 demonstrated on show flight over a triangular circuit in Manchuria in the Summer of 1944 the coverage of a distance of ten thousand, two hundred and twelve (10, 212) miles, remaining aloft for fifty-seven hours and twelve minutes (57 hrs.; 12 mns.). To help achieve the successor-generation Ki-74’s mission of reaching select targets in the United States, the “Patsy(s)” each boasted a pressurized cabin for all five crew members in the forward compartment.

 These bombers were being churned out in the lead-lined super-industrial bunkers beneath the city of Nagasaki by over two thousand and five hundred (2500 +) mass-production personnel, and such assembly continued without a hitch, even as the plutonium-powered equivalent of twenty thousand tons of TNT leveled the city above them – a fact to which the bunkered Mitsubishi employees were totally oblivious! Colonel Saigo considered the so-named "Seiko" (Success) mission absurd and suicidal, but the crew was aware of the hazards of the mission; they even had a personal dose of poison to kill themselves if forced down in enemy territory. The pilot was Juukou Nagatomo, the co-pilot was Hajime Kawasaki, Kenji Tsukagoshi and Noriyoshi Nagata were flight engineers, and Motohiko Kawashima was the radio operator. Three Army officers were also carried as passengers, two of whom were military attachés. They departed Japan on 30 June 1943 for Singapore, where the airstrip had to be lengthened by 1,000 meters to assure a safe takeoff. Finally, the aircraft took off at 7:10 on 7 July 1943 with eight tons of fuel, ample to reach Europe.

Their intended destination was the German airfield at Sarabus (now Hvardiiske, Crimea, 45.118236°N 33.976564°E.) but they were to disappear over the Indian Ocean. British fighters likely intercepted them as they were aware of the flight and its route (via air grid squares 3420, 2560 and 2510) thanks to the ULTRA analysts at Bletchley Park decoding intercepted German communications to Sarabus warning of their impending arrival. Japan carried out a second flight to gain an endurance record and to verify the Ki-77's capabilities. The existing record had been held by Italy's Savoia-Marchetti SM.75GA since 1939.


Even if the usefulness of record-breaking flights was overshadowed in 1944 by the necessities of war, the Japanese needed a propaganda coup and the surviving Ki-77 was available. On 2 July it flew 19 circuits over a triangular route off Manchuria, landing 57 hours 9 minutes later and covering 16,435 km (10,212 mi) at an average speed of 288.2 km/h (179.1 mph), 3,499 km (2,174 mi) more than the SM.75's 12,936 km (8,038 mi) record.

The Ki-77 landed with 800 liters remaining in the tanks of the 12,200 l (2,700 imp gal; 3,200 US gal) it began with, so the maximum endurance was around 18,000 km (11,000 mi). The Ki-77's endurance record was first exceeded in October 1946 by a Lockheed P2V-1 Neptune in a flight from Perth, Australia to Columbus, Ohio in the American midwest, of over 18,083.6 km (11,236.6 mi). None of these records were internationally recognized or officiated by the FAI.

The Roswell, New Mexico Japanese POW Camp Lie

Douglas Dietrich claims Japanese POWs were interned at Roswell, NM, and fraudulently claims he took photos of a scrap-book at the Presidio Post Library in the 1980s before destroying it.

But according to author John Kettler, who published photos of the same scrap-book on his website in 2019, the photos were taken by the great-nephew of an American GI @Notalice1776.

The great-uncle was a US Army guard who transported German POWs by train from Boston, MA, and later served as a guard at the Roswell, NM POW camp.

During World War II, about 4,800 German prisoners were held in a POW camp just outside Roswell. While the majority of prisoners labored on farms, a group of men worked in the city on a flood control project in town, paving the banks of the Spring River with stone.
As construction progressed along the north river bank, a group of prisoners arranged rocks of different sizes to form the outline of the Iron Cross, a military decoration of the German Empire that was reintroduced by the Nazi Army with a swastika added to the center.
Upon discovering the symbol, many Roswell citizens were incensed by the brazen act and subsequently covered the offending image with cement. However, after many years of erosion, the cross reemerged and can be seen once again.
The site has been turned into a memorial to prisoners of war and MIA soldiers everywhere. Known for a time as Iron Cross Park, it was renamed POW/MIA Park in the 1990s.  Personally, I believe the internment of Japanese American citizens during WW2 was unfair and unnecessary. For example, not a single incidence of sabotage by Japanese Americans occurred during the war.

As I research this, however, it is clear that although they were interned in poor conditions initially, every effort was made to provide the essential logistics and support necessary.  And by 1942, Japanese American men who had been denied enlistment and subsequently interned were allowed to enlist.  Approximately 120,000 Japanese Americans were interned in 10 camps for 3 years.  8,000 are known to have escaped those areas (military zones) on the West Coast prior to the Executive Order of FDR in Feb 1942. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Order_9066

But what Douglas Dietrich does not mention is that the order included German and Italian Americans as well.  In December 1944, President Roosevelt suspended Executive Order 9066. Incarcerees were released, often to resettlement facilities and temporary housing, and the camps were shut down by 1946.[4]

In December 1982, the CWRIC issued its findings in Personal Justice Denied, concluding that the incarceration of Japanese Americans had not been justified by military necessity. The report determined that the decision to incarcerate was based on "race prejudice, war hysteria, and a failure of political leadership". The Commission recommended legislative remedies consisting of an official Government apology and redress payments of $20,000 to each of the survivors; a public education fund was set up to help ensure that this would not happen again (Pub.L. 100–383). On August 10, 1988, the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, based on the CWRIC recommendations, was signed into law by Ronald Reagan.

On November 21, 1989, George H. W. Bush signed an appropriation bill authorizing payments to be paid out between 1990 and 1998. In 1990, surviving internees (80,000) began to receive individual redress payments and a letter of apology. This bill applied to the Japanese Americans and to members of the Aleut people inhabiting the strategic Aleutian islands in Alaska who were also relocated.

 As far as the claim that there were Japanese POWs interned at Camp Roswell, NM, this is absolutely false.

What Dietrich claims as occurring in July 1947 could not possibly be true. Dietrich assumes no one will actually research the history of Japanese, German and Italian POW internment.  Nor does he "clarify" the obvious designations between types of camps which is essential in determining their locations.  For example, when Dietrich publicizes the change of "Roswell Internment Camp" to Roswell POW Camp", he is being deceptive.

There were at least 5 types of camps: Relocation, Internment, Department of Justice, Resettlement, and POW.  Japanese American civilians also had classifications such as "Resident" or "Non- Alien" and "Resident Alien (non-citizen") separated from POWs for obvious reasons.  The fact that the Roswell Internment Camp was changed to "POW Camp" indicates that the camp once housed civilians, quite possibly Japanese Americans, but by 1943 were already being moved toward deactivation and resettlement.

And with the surge of German and Italian POWs arriving in the US following Africa and Italian campaigns, there was a need to utilize these former Japanese internment camps as POW camps.  In fact, the "Roswell POW Camp" was located outside Roswell, in Orchard Park, NM.  And housed 4.800 German POWs.
This is well documented as is the history of the area by various groups including Japanese in New Mexico.  I have contacted at least one of these and await a reply.

There were two other Japanese Camps in New Mexico, one 350 miles SW of Roswell at Lordsburg (Civilian Internment) and another a similar distance to the North at Santa Fe (Department of Justice Camp). The fact is, that no Japanese American Civilian Internment or Captured Japanese POW camps existed after March 1946.

I found your article after conducting a Google Image search of the photos Dietrich published. It is my belief that after making this claim and publishing photos that are not his own, he may also publish them in an upcoming book being written by Peter Moon (Vince Barbarick).

I have found no evidence whatsoever of Japanese POWs being interned at Camp Roswell, NM. And certainly not following the closure of the Camp long before the “Roswell incident” in July 1947.

I apologize for the tardiness of my reply. Much appreciate this information and believe I may’ve gone in and tweaked my post in response to what you said, but am having memory issues right now and would have to go check to confirm or disprove this. Shall have to run down your links when I’m more switched on cognitively than of late. Sustained a TBI about 7.5 years ago, and memory issues are a real problem, though the severity varies considerably.
